Ontario's attic insulation rebate covers part of the cost of raising an attic to R-50 under Home Renovation Savings, a program Enbridge Gas runs jointly with Save on Energy. Below is what it pays, who can apply and how contractors fit in, last checked October 2026.

Attic Insulation Rebate details

How Much The Attic Insulation Rebate Pays

The no-assessment attic insulation rebate is set by your starting level. Starting at R-12 or lower and finishing at R-50 is worth up to $1,250. Starting above R-12 but no higher than R-25 is worth up to $1,000. Starting above R-25 but no higher than R-35 is worth up to $800. Whatever the band, the payment is capped at half of the project cost after tax, and every reachable part of the attic must be covered, not a single section of it.

Sloped cathedral ceilings and flat roofs carry lower amounts: $750 when R-25 or less reaches R-28, and $650 when R-12 or less reaches R-20. Plenty of builder-grade attics in Bradford sit in the two middle bands, so your starting R-value decides which attic insulation rebate band applies.

Go through the assessment route instead and the attic insulation rebate bands rise to $1,500, $1,200 and $900, and a cathedral ceiling or flat roof gets $780. That route needs a registered energy advisor and more than one upgrade, so it suits a house getting several things done at once.

Who Qualifies For The Attic Insulation Rebate

Only the owner of the home can apply, and landlords can claim for a rental they own. Gas-heated houses need an Enbridge Gas account in good standing plus a gas furnace or gas boiler. Homes heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood qualify as long as they sit on the Ontario power grid. Detached houses and semis qualify, as do row and townhouses that are not stacked units, and mobile homes sitting on a permanent foundation. A seasonal cottage can sometimes qualify too.

A house with six months of occupancy or fewer is not eligible, nor is any address that already received attic money from Enbridge, from Save on Energy or through any other Ontario program. Owners of newly built Bradford homes need to get past that six-month point before an attic insulation rebate can apply.

The Contractor Rule For The Attic Insulation Rebate

On the no-assessment path, the attic insulation rebate depends on who does the work: the company has to be on the program's own list, and it is that company, not you, that submits the claim. In October 2026 the list held six names, Solidcare, Home Depot, Great Northern Insulation, George Kent, EcoComfort and Brand Insulation, and the program page said no new contractors were being signed up. Look up the current list at homerenovationsavings.ca before booking any work you intend to claim.

The assessment-based attic insulation rebate route has an energy advisor visit the house ahead of the job and again once it is done, it requires two or more qualifying upgrades, and it lets you pick whichever contractor you like.

Attic Insulation Rebate Dates And Changes

The program is currently scheduled to end November 30, 2026, according to contractors involved with it, while the official page shows no closing date. The date already slipped once, from November 30, 2025, and it pays out in the order claims arrive, so an attic insulation rebate is never guaranteed until the money is in hand. Read the current terms on the program site before you start.

Measure Your Attic Before Any Attic Insulation Rebate Claim

Both paths ask for the R-value before and after, so the starting depth counts. A free depth reading records it across the attic floor and hands you the starting R-value in writing, whichever path you follow. What we do in the attic

Pair This With Another Attic Job

A typical Bradford attic combines a couple of these on one visit.

  1. Fluffy white loose-fill insulation blown deep across an attic floor under new roof trusses

    Blown-In Attic Insulation

Blown-in attic insulation spreads one unbroken layer across the attic floor, eave to eave, and reaches R-60 at the right depth. It suits empty attics, patchy batts and any floor with open joist bays.

  2. Even layer of white blown-in insulation covering the joists of a long attic lit by a single bulb

    Attic Insulation Top-Up

With an attic insulation top-up, fresh fill is blown on top of the layer you already have until a thin or sunken attic floor reaches R-60. Dry, clean material underneath is left right where it lies.

  3. Brown batts between the joists of a newer attic with a row of vents along the eaves

    New Home Attic Insulation Upgrade

A new home attic insulation upgrade takes the minimum layer a builder left and builds it up to R-60, fixing the eaves, the hatch and the ceiling holes as it goes. For most newer Bradford houses it is the first upgrade worth doing.

  4. Yellow batts along the low eave edge of an older attic with dark board sheathing overhead

    Attic Air Sealing

Attic air sealing shuts the holes in your ceiling where heated air slips into the attic, from recessed lights and fan boxes to the hatch. It is step one on every insulation job we take.

  5. Brown batts in a tidy attic with a square gable vent letting light in at the far end

    Attic Ventilation

Good attic ventilation draws cold, dry air through the soffits and releases it up near the ridge, which keeps the roof deck dry through the winter. We look at attic ventilation in every attic, because new insulation must never block it.

  6. Worker in a protective suit and gloves rolling up a length of yellow fibreglass batt in an attic

    Attic Insulation Removal

Attic insulation removal vacuums out damp, mouldy, flattened or rodent-fouled insulation, leaving a bare floor ready for sealing and fresh insulation. Attic insulation removal is the right first step when the old layer can no longer do its job.

  7. Pink batts filling an attic floor next to a plywood walkway, with a window in the gable wall

    Attic Insulation Cost

Attic insulation cost in Bradford mostly falls between $1.20 and $3.00 per square foot, which is about $1,200 to $3,000 for an average subdivision attic. Your exact figure arrives on paper once a free depth reading is done.
